What to do if you... buy a second hand phone

Remember, the likelihood of you buying a stolen device from a second hand shop is extremely high. In some cases you are even buying back your own phone! For details on how to check whether a phone you are considering buying is stolen property or not... click here

In order to cut down the illegal trade of some second hand shops you can call the hotline and check that the Secure@Phone code (IMEI) isn't registered to someone else. Our hotline operators will immediately be able to tell you if a device registered with us has been stolen. If it is blacklisted within our database we will ask you for your location so that recovery action can now take place.

Remember, it is your right to check if a phone that you are considering buying is stolen property. If a second-hand dealership is reluctant to let you check the status of a handset it is highly likely that they are dealing in stolen phones and we would strongly advise you to leave and purchase nothing.

If this happens to you we would like to hear from you so that we can follow up the case. Remember, if you feel threatened or intimidated in any way leave the premises and report it to us. Never put yourself in danger .

Remember: You will be committing a criminal offence if you knowingly purchase stolen property. An honest dealership will be happy to assist you. For a list of second-hand businesses we trust... click here

Don't forget, the minute we take away the easy sell, is the minute we take away the incentive to steal phones to feed the second hand market. With Your help and support cutting mobile phone theft is possible.
