Secure@Phone, was founded by parents and mobile phone owners concerned with the growing problem of mobile phone theft worldwide. As expensive and inconvenient as it is to replace a lost or stolen phone, sadly owning one these days is exposing us and particularly our children to a bigger danger.

Theft related attacks are literally increasing daily and putting people's lives at risk. Recent incidents resulting in serious injury, maiming and loss of life have shown that we can not just sit back and accept this. We must take action now.

Secure@Phone was established out of frustration with the lack of an official coherent and effective policy. The founders realised that there has got to be a better way in dealing with and actively preventing mobile phone theft to what is being done within the industry today.

The public need to know the facts. Mobile phone operators have the technology to block a device once it is reported lost or stolen. However they seldom do this as they are not officially or legally required to do so. On the rare occasions when providers do block a stolen phone, it is purely as they do not want to be held accountable for the cost of the calls from that stolen phone.

There are a number of factors which also make this sort of blocking ineffective. Firstly, it is not well known and so thieves are thus not deterred and secondly when a thief replaces the SIM the phone is fully functional again on another network.

The network operators are not concerned about disabling your phone, only about any charges that the thief may incur. They simply don't care about protecting our property and we find this totally unacceptable.

Furthermore, the public and police lack a mechanism whereby they can identify the status of a second-hand device before purchase. The police are also unable to identify recovered devices or to prosecute when they find stolen devices.

The public is ignorant of what network operators can and should do to protect not only their device but also their life.

With your support, Secure@Phone is finally giving the consumer a voice to demand universal blocking through a sustainable crime prevention campaign. In other words, we want to ensure your stolen or lost phone is automatically blocked on all networks thus rendering it useless for personal use and impossible to sell on the second hand market. We are also ensuring that it's identifiable by the police when the device is recovered through a law enforcement action or through Secure@Phone's own recovery team.

By marking and registering your device with us you give us one more voice to demand that legislation is enacted and to force networks operators to finally realise their social responsibility to become an effective part of crime prevention. This could literally take the value out of stealing a mobile phone.
